MasadaMasada ist eine archäologische Stätte im Südbezirk in Israel. Auf einem Gipfelplateau am Rand der Judäischen Wüste, hoch über dem Toten Meer, ließ sich Herodes eine Palastfestung erbauen. Fertiggestellt wurde dieses königliche Refugium etwa 15 v. Chr. Die Architektur ist teils traditionell (östlich-hellenistisch), teils am Vorbild römischer Villen orientiert.
