A tipi ring in the Blackfoot Reservation, Montana, made of stone used to hold down a tipi cover. Southern Piegan Adam White Man stands near the opening in the east end of the circle. The ring had been used by his father White Man or Eagle Calf. The diameter of the tipi ring is around 16 feet. Native Americans used this way of holding down a cover over a period of thousands of years
