StupaCircumDevotees
Relief of a devotee couple in Greek dress (right), with two Buddhist monks (left), cicumbulating a stupa. Private collection. Personal photograph 2006. Description: the male devotee holds a lamp in his right hand. He has hair, marked by the volume of his mane and incised lines, identifying him as a lay devotee, in contrast to the monks who are shaven. Also, his dress covers both shoulders, whether the monks only leave the right shoulder bare. He is accompanied by his wife, who wears a scarf over the head and forms a gesture of devotion.
A similar scene is also visible at the British Museum (drawing hereafter).
