Beschreibung:
St. Nectan's Church, Stoke The church dates from 1360, but was built on the remains of an earlier building believed to date from 1170. It is dedicated to the 5th century Celtic saint, Nectan. The 128 ft tower , visible for miles around and from the sea, has earned the church the name, "Cathedral of North Devon".
During medieval times, it was the church for the monks of nearby Hartland Abbey, who walked the mile uphill to the church from the abbey for services six times a day.
