Die Geschichte basiert auf den gleichnamigen Memoiren der Prohibitionsagenten Eliot Ness und Oscar Fraley aus dem Jahr 1957. Es sind die fiktiven Ereignisse eines handverlesenen Teams, welches in den 1930er Jahren in Chicago die Unterwelt bekämpfte und für seine unbestechliche Reputation den Namen „The Untouchables“ bekam.
