(Letter Duet) By Geraldine Farrar and Antonio Scotti (In Italian) 89014 12-inch, $4.00 Butterfly is visited by Sharpless, who has re-ceived a letter from Pinkerton, and has acceptedthe unpleasant task of informing Butterfly that theLieutenant has deserted her. He finds his taska difficult one, for when he attempts to readPinkertons letter to her, she misunderstands itspurport and continually interrupts the Consul withlittle bursts of joyful anticipation, thinking thatPinkerton will soon come to her. When do therobins nest in America? she asks, saying that hewill surely come then. Finally realizing some-thing of his message, she runs to bring her childto prove to Sharpless the certainty of her husbandshome-coming. Sai cos ebbe cuore (Do You Know, My Sweet One) By Geraldine Farrar, Soprano (In Italian). In this pitiful air she asks little Trouble not to listen to the bad man (Sharpless), who is saying that Pinkerton has deserted them.

Madama Butterfly ist eine Oper von Giacomo Puccini. Das Libretto stammt von Giuseppe Giacosa und Luigi Illica. Es basiert auf der Erzählung Madame Butterfly (1898) von John Luther Long und der Tragödie Madame Butterfly. A Tragedy of Japan (1900) von David Belasco. Die Oper wurde in ihrer ursprünglichen Fassung als Zweiakter am 17. Februar 1904 im Teatro alla Scala in Mailand uraufgeführt.
