Das Rio Grande Valley – von seinen Bewohnern auch The Valley oder El Valle genannt oder abgekürzt R. G. V. – ist eine landschaftlich-demografische Region in der südlichsten Spitze des US-Bundesstaats Texas. Sie liegt am nördlichen Ufer des Rio Grande, welcher bis El Paso den Grenzverlauf zwischen Mexiko und den Vereinigten Staaten bildet. Gemeinhin werden der Region die vier Countys Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr und Willacy zugerechnet. Demografisch zählt sie zu den am schnellsten wachsenden Regionen in den Vereinigten Staaten: Von 1969 bis 2014 wuchs die Bevölkerung von 325.000 auf 1.300.000 Bewohner. Der hispanische Bevölkerungsanteil liegt um die 90 %. Wirtschaftlich ist die Region nach wie vor stark von Landwirtschaft geprägt – speziell dem Gemüse- und Zitrusfrüchte-Anbau. Die größten Städte – Brownsville, Harlingen, McAllen, Edinburg und Mission – konzentrieren sich im Südteil des Gebiets in der Nähe des Rio Grande und in den beiden Countys Cameron und Hidalgo. .. weiterlesen
