Die SARS-CoV-2-Variante Omikron ist eine Variante des Betacoronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Sie umfasst nach der Pango-Nomenklatur die Linie B.1.1.529 mit der erstentdeckten Untervariante BA.1 und weiteren Untervarianten. Die erste Probe stammte vom 9. November 2021. Die Variante Omikron wurde erstmals in Südafrika und Botswana identifiziert und am 24. November 2021 entsprechend der Pango-Nomenklatur mit B.1.1.529 bezeichnet. Am 26. November 2021 wurde diese Variante von der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) als „besorgniserregende Variante“ eingestuft und erhielt als Bezeichnung den 15. Buchstaben des griechischen Alphabets Omikron. Im Januar 2022 dominierte Omikron mit etwa 90 % weltweit. Die Untervariante BA.1 wurde Anfang 2022 weltweit von deren Untervariante BA.1.1, im März von der Omikron-Variante BA.2 und Ende Juni 2022 von BA.4 und BA.5 verdrängt. .. weiterlesen
