Mindanao lumad panabas 2
The blade is called panabas. The term literally means 'chopping device' in the local dialects. The blade is used both as a weapon and as a device in chopping off body parts in the meting out of justice.
The example panabas has brass ferrule with anthropomorphic design.
Muslims are prohibited to make representations of humans and as such, anthropomorphic designs cannot be found in Moro weapons.
Overall length: 568 mm (23.4 inches); Blade length: 227 mm (8.9 inches); Maximum blade thickness: 6 mm (15/64 inch)
