This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 6 September 2021, shows fantastic swirls decorating the waters of Lake Geneva, Switzerland. A recent study conducted on the waters of Lake Geneva, published in the scientific journal Nature, has shown how climate change may be impacting the ecosystems of the world's largest lakes. According to researchers, rising global temperatures could affect the levels of oxygen and other vital nutrients in natural ecosystems, inhibiting the optimal conditions for their sustainable development. Data from Copernicus missions are particularly useful for monitoring the water quality of water bodies.
