Michael Schumacher, pictured here during qualifiying for the 2012 Formula 1 Japenese Grand Prix, announced in Japan that he would be retiring from the sport at the end of the season.

'Schumi' is in his third season with Mercedes AMG Petronas after his comeback from his first period of retirement.

At Suzuka he qualified 12th fastest but started the race from 22nd following a 10 place grid pentalty for causing a collision at the last Grand Prix in Singapore.

Schumacher, 40, is a seven time F1 World Champion and arguably the greatest racing driver of all time.
