Das Team wird vom Verband Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) geleitet und ist seit 1992 Vollmitglied im International Cricket Council. Die Mannschaft besitzt somit Teststatus. Das simbabwische Cricket geht zurück auf die britische Kolonialzeit im damaligen Rhodesien und ist seitdem stark von Südafrika beeinflusst worden.
