Barracks at Virginia Military Institute — Lexington, southwest Virginia.
- Significance: Original design by Alexander Jackson Davis, 1848 and sub., burned during Civil War (1864), and rebuilt under direction of Davis (1870-73); of the subsequent additions to the original, one was (1892) by I.E.A. Rose and another (1918-19) by B.G. Goodhue, both relying heavily on earlier Davis drawings. :*Latest addition, referred to as "New Barracks," was built 1946-1948.
- The structure was named a National Historic Landmark in 1966.
- Since its construction the Barracks has housed sleeping quarters, classrooms, and administrative offices for VMI. In recent years classrooms and offices have been moved to nearby buildings.
