Winnetka ist eine Gemeinde in Illinois, circa 30 km nördlich von Chicago und befindet sich im Cook County. Die Gemeinde ist Bestandteil der Metropolregion Chicago und wurde 1869 offiziell gegründet, nachdem bereits ab 1836 erste Häuser errichtet wurden.

Allgemeines

Das U.S. Census Bureau hat bei der Volkszählung 2020 eine Einwohnerzahl von 12.744[1] ermittelt.

Der Ort erstreckt sich über eine Gesamtfläche von 10,2 km² und befindet sich 198 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel. Winnetka liegt direkt am Michigansee, einer von den fünf Großen Seen. Bürgermeister von Winnetka ist Christopher Rintz.

The Dr. Paul W. and Eunice Greely House in Winnetka (1937). Greeley was a second-generation physician. He was a Lt. Commander in the Naval Reserve Medical Corps during World War II, and became Chief of Plastic Surgery at a Naval hospital in California until 1946. In 1961, he was promoted to Real Admiral in the Naval Reserve Medical Corps at Great Lakes Naval Station. Greeley was named a professor and Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, a position he held until 1969. He was also named a professor of surgery and Chairman of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Rush Medical College from 1957 to 1967. He married Eunice Goebel, daughter of Dr. Julius Goebel, a Germanic language scholar and co-founder of the Modern Language Association. Mrs. Greely served as the Executive of the Winnetka Garden Club. Dr. Greely retired in 1972 and moved to California.
