Die Provinz Ilo liegt in der Region Moquegua im Süden von Peru. Die Provinz hat eine Fläche von 1381 km². Beim Zensus 2017 betrug die Einwohnerzahl 74.649. 10 Jahre zuvor lag sie bei 63.780. Verwaltungssitz ist Stadt Ilo.
Geographische Lage
Die Provinz Ilo erstreckt sich entlang der Pazifikküste im Südwesten der Region Moquegua. Sie besitzt eine Längsausdehnung in NW-SO-Richtung von 65 km und reicht knapp 35 km ins Landesinnere. Die Provinz liegt in der wüstenhaften, ariden Küstenregion. Der Fluss Río Moquegua durchfließt die Provinz. Die Hauptstadt Ilo liegt an der Küste unweit der Flussmündung.
Die Provinz Ilo grenzt im Westen an die Region Arequipa, im Nordosten an die Provinz Mariscal Nieto sowie im Südosten an die Region Tacna.
Verwaltungsgliederung
Die Provinz Ilo besteht aus den folgenden drei Distrikten. Der Distrikt Ilo ist Sitz der Provinzverwaltung.

The shield of the province of Ilo was created by Emiliano Rojas Cáceres who presented the design of the shield in colors to the Provincial Council of Ilo, on May 26, 1976 the mayor's office awarded him a diploma of honor in recognition of his artistic creation and inspiration. of the shield.
The characteristics given by the author of the Ilo shield are:
"A reminder pennant, with an allegory of a Shield with motifs from the province of Ilo, such as the frame, the copper mold, on the top a rising sun, on the inside a red stripe with a pelican; at the bottom of the shield, the sea, a ship, and the pier; In the background a view of the ovens of La Fundición of the Southern Peru company, and as an ornament surrounded by the shield, two olive branches with their respective fruits, in the lower part an anchor, a marine helmet and a net to fill the void fishing. The aforementioned pennant was distributed free of charge at the solemn session of the Council on its first anniversary."
The Ileño Municipality, respecting the artistic interpretation of the author, changed the location of the anchor, the mining helmet and the fishing net, placing them in the upper left corner, eliminating the pelican.
