The Virunga Mountains marked on a false image Landsat photo from 2007. Built-up areas are violet, lava streams and water surfaces (like Lake Kivu down left) in dark violet/black, the hot lava lake in Nyiragongo in blue and pink. The outer limits of the national parks of the three countries are clearly marked, as they coincide with the sharp line where the rain forest (light green) and cultivated land etc (middle green) meet. The lava streams/fields of Nyiragongo (towards Goma) and Nyamuragira (in all directions) are clearly marked.
