Boven Digoel ist ein indonesischer Regierungsbezirk (Kabupaten) in der indonesischen Provinz Papua auf der Insel Neuguinea. Stand 2020 leben hier circa 60.000 Menschen.[1] Der Regierungssitz des Kabupaten Boven Digoel ist Tanahmerah.

Boven Digoel liegt im Osten der Provinz Papua im Binnenland an der Grenze zu Papua-Neuguinea. Es grenzt im Norden an die Regierungsbezirke Pegunungan Bintang und Yahukimo, im Westen an Mappi und im Süden an den Kabupaten Merauke. Administrativ unterteilt sich Boven Digoel in 20 Distrikte (Distrik) mit 111 Dörfern (Kampung).
Einwohner
2020 lebten in Boven Digoel 63.714 Menschen. Die Bevölkerungsdichte beträgt 2 Personen pro Quadratkilometer. 55 Prozent der Einwohner sind Katholiken, 29 Prozent Protestanten und 16 Prozent Muslime.[1]

Boven Digoel Regency Coat of arms. Boven Digoel Regency was a Dutch prison camp in the Dutch East Indies at the headwaters of the river Digul, where Indonesian nationalists and communists were interned between 1928 and 1942. Independent Indonesia has kept the original Dutch name of the area.
