Das Bistum San Pablo wurde am 28. November 1966 durch Papst Paul VI. mit der Apostolischen Konstitution Ecclesiarum per ampla aus Gebietsabtretungen des Bistums Lipa errichtet und dem Erzbistum Manila als Suffraganbistum unterstellt.[1]

Es umfasst die Provinz Laguna.

San Pablo Cathedral was first established by the Augustinian friars in 1586, second church in 1629 and the present stucture was built in 1714. Its foundation was laid by Fr. Juan Labao in 1680. It has neo-classic facade with doric coupled columns and windows with triangular segmented pediments. It also has four-storey octagonal bell tower with lank and open windows. San Pablo City was part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lipa since 1910. On November 28, 1967, it became an independent diocese and became the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Pablo.
