Badminton-Weltmeisterschaft 2013
Die Badminton-Weltmeisterschaft 2013 fand vom 5. bis zum 11. August 2013 in Guangzhou in Volksrepublik China statt. China war nach 1987 zum zweiten Mal Ausrichter der Weltmeisterschaft. Es war die 20. Austragung einer Badminton-Weltmeisterschaft des Weltverbandes BWF. Die BWF gab dem aktuellen Olympiasieger und Weltmeister Lin Dan, der nach den Olympischen Sommerspielen 2012 eine Wettkampfpause bis zu den Asienmeisterschaften 2013 einlegte, eine Wildcard.[1] Von deutscher Seite verzichtete Juliane Schenk nach Querelen mit dem nationalen Verband auf eine Teilnahme. Auch die qualifizierten Olga Konon und Josche Zurwonne mussten ihre Teilnahme kurzfristig absagen.
Vergabe der Veranstaltung
Die Vergabe der Veranstaltung erfolgte am 9. Dezember 2011 in Queenstown, Neuseeland. Kopenhagen hatte sich ebenso wie Macau sowohl um die Ausrichtung der Weltmeisterschaft 2013 als auch um die Ausrichtung der Badminton-Weltmeisterschaft 2014 beworben. Für 2013 wählte der Weltverband Guangzhou, welches sich nur für 2013 beworben hatte. Für 2014 erhielt Kopenhagen den Zuschlag.
Teilnehmende Nationen
345 Spieler aus 49 nationalen Mitgliedsverbänden nahmen an den Titelkämpfen teil.
