Karate bei den Olympischen Spielen
Karate war nach Judo (1964) und Taekwondo (1988 als Demonstrationssportart, 2000 als offizieller Teil der Spiele) die dritte asiatische Kampfsportart, die ins olympische Programm aufgenommen wurde. Am 3. August 2016 beschloss das IOC, dass Karate bei den Spielen in Tokio 2020 Teil der Spiele sein wird. Dabei wurden die beiden Disziplinen Kata und Kumite ausgetragen. Im Jahr 2018 war Karate bereits Teil der Olympischen Jugend-Sommerspiele.
Für die olympischen Spiele 2024 in Paris ist Karate nicht mehr vorgesehen.[1]
Wettbewerbe
Es gab bei den Olympischen Spielen 2020 im Karate 8 Wettbewerbe – 6 im Kumite und 2 im Kata, 4 für Männer und 4 für Frauen.
